2 - 50 gr balls Maizy (82%
corn fiber - 18% elastic nylon)
Crystal Palace DPN Needles #2 US [2.75 mm] set of 5
Maizy color used in sample socks: #1016 "earth"
Sock shown used 1 ball of Maizy = 1 pair of socks = 2 balls
Small cable needle or an extra DPN
Stitch Marker or loop of contrasting yarn
Gauge: 8 sts per inch over St st
Size: Men’s size med-large (approx. man's shoe size 10)

BOR: beginning of round; beg: beginning; bet: between; cont:
continue; CO: cast on; kbl: knit through the back loop; K2tog: knit 2 together;
P2 tog: Purl 2 together; m1: make 1 stitch; N1: Needle 1; N2: Needle 2; N3:
Needle 3; N4: Needle 4; patt: pattern; PU: pick up; rem: remain(ing); rep:
repeat; Sl1: slip 1; SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit; St st: stockinette stitch; st(s):
stitch(es); rnd: round; * = * Repeat what is in between asterisk*.
Trail Mix Cable and Rib pattern:
Cuff: CO 69 sts and distribute evenly over 3 dpns. Join in
ring being careful not to twist. Mark join as beginning of round (BOR). Work 10
rows of k2, p1 ribbing.
Leg: Work Cable Set Up Row. Work
Trail Mix Cable and Rib pattern for desired length.
Cable Set Up Round:
This rnd is only worked once to add 1 stitch to accommodate the cable pattern:
*p2, kbl twice, p2, k8* rep 4 times. P2, kbl twice, p2, k1, m1, k6. [70 sts]
Work Trail Mix Cable & Rib pattern for desired length:
Cable Pattern:
Rnds 1-4, 6: *P2, kbl twice, p2, k8*. Rep around.
Rnd 5: P2, kbl twice, p2, [cable: slip 2 sts onto cable needle or dpn, hold in
back, k2, k2 sts from cable needle, slip 2 sts onto cable needle or dpn, hold in
front, k2, k2 sts from cable needle]. Rep these two sections for total of 5 rib
sections and 5 cable sections.
Heel Flap: Work 34 sts in Trail Mix Cable and Rib pattern as established.
These are instep sts and will be ignored until heel is complete.
Row 1: K36 sts onto 1 needle.
Row 2: P these 36 sts.
Row 3: *Sl 1, k1* Rep across row.
Row 4: Sl 1, p across row.
Rep rows 3 and 4 - 14 more times.
Turning the Heel:
Row 1: k24, ssk, k1, turn
Row 2: sl1, p13, P2 tog, p1, turn
Row 3: sl1, k to one stitch before gap, ssk, k1, turn.
Row 4: sl1, purl to one stitch before gap, P2 tog, purl 1, turn.
Rep steps 3 and 4 until all heel sts have been worked. [24 sts left]
Gusset Pick Up:
K across the 24 heel sts.
PU 21 sts along edge of heel flap.
Work instep sts in established cable pattern.
PU 21 sts along other edge of heel flap.

Round 1:
N 1: K until the last 3 stitches, K2tog, k1.
N 2: Work cable pattern as established.
N 3: K1, SSK, K around
Round 2: K
Rep rounds one and two 15 more times. [17 sts on both N1 and N3 and 34 sts on
N2]
Sock Foot:
Work St st on N1 and N3 and cable pattern as established on N2 until foot is
1.5” less than total desired length.
Toe:
Round 1:
N1: K to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1.
N2: K2, ssk, k to last 3 sts on needle, k2tog, k1.
N3: K1, ssk, k to end of needle.
Round 2: K
Rep rounds one and two 9 more times. [7 sts on both N1 & N3 and 14 sts on N2]
K 7 sts from N1 onto N3.
Graft toe sts tog using Kitchener stitch to complete first sock. Weave in
all ends.
Work the second sock as you did the first.
Shoe size for this sock and other numbers:
