Easy Bamboozle
Lace Cardigan

Materials:
Crystal Palace Bamboozle  (90 yards) or Bunny Hop (113 yards) model shown in #9798 'red cinnamon'
1300 (1350, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700) yds
Crystal Palace Bamboo  Size 5 and 8 straight knitting needles
Size 8 - 26” circular needle
Size 5 – 35” circular needle
1 set size 8 DP needles
1 Stitch holder

Finished chest measurement: 40 (44, 48, 52, 56, 60) inches

Gauge: 20 sts = 4”

WT knitwise: K to designated st, sl next st from left to right needle as to P, put yarn to front, sl st back to left needle, turn work and bring yarn to front
WT purlwise: P to designated st, sl next st from left to right needle as to P, put yarn to back, sl st back to left needle, turn work and put yarn in back.

BACK
CO 92 (102, 112, 122, 132, 142) sts using smaller straight needles. K 3 rows. Change to larger needles and begin pattern:
Row 1: Knit, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced on first repeat only
Row 2: P
Row 3: K2, *yo, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, yo, k2*. Repeat between * to end of row.
Row 4: P

Rep these 4 rows until back measures 25.5 (26, 26.5, 27, 28, 29) inches. End with row 4.
Begin short row shoulder shaping:
Row 1: K to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of end of row, WT knitwise
Row 2: P to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of end of row, WT purlwise
Row 3: K to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of gap created by wrap on row 1, WT knitwise
Row 4: P to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of gap created by wrap on row 2, WT purlwise
Next row: K all sts, picking up wrap and knitting it together with the wrapped st. Turn, P all sts, picking up wrap and purling it together with the wrapped st (Note: PU the wrapped purl st from the back and place it on left needle to accomplish this). Using one DP needle, K 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55) sts, K across next 34 (36, 38, 40, 40, 42) sts and place on st holder for back neck, K 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55) sts with second double point needle.

LEFT FRONT
CO 47 (52, 57, 62, 67, 72) sts using smaller needles. K 3 rows, increasing 5 sts evenly spaced across last row (end by working a WS row. Change to larger needles and begin pattern, inc 5 sts evenly spaced across first K row. Work until piece measures 16 (16, 16.5, 16.5, 17, 18) inches for V-neck sweater; 22 (22.5, 23, 23.5, 24.5, 25) inches for crew neck sweater. End with row 4 of pattern for V-neck sweater, end with row 1 of pattern for crew neck pattern.

Shape neck – V-neck: Next row: K in pattern to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1. P 1 row.
Cont in pattern as established, dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row until 43 (48, 52, 57, 62, 66) sts rem. Cont dec every 4th row until 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55) sts rem. Cont even until work measures same length as back to beg of shoulder shaping, end by working a WS row. Work short-row shoulder shaping.

Shape neck – crew neck: BO 8 (8, 9, 9, 9, 9), P to end of row. Cont in pattern as established, working to 3 sts before neck edge, K2 tog, K1. Cont decreasing 1 st at neck edge on each K row to 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55 ) sts. Work even until work measures same as back to beg of shoulder shaping. End by working row 1. Work short rows as follows:

Row 1: P to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of end of row, WT purlwise
Row 2: K
Row 3: P to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of gap created by wrap on row 2, WT purlwise
Row 4: K
Row 5: Using double point needle, P across row, picking up wrap and placing it on left needle, then k the wrap and st together. Do not bind off.

RIGHT FRONT
CO 47 (52, 57, 62, 67, 72) sts using smaller needles. K 3 rows, (end by working a WS row). Change to larger needles and beg pattern, inc 5 sts evenly spaced across first K row. Work until piece measures 22 (22.5, 23, 23.5, 24.5, 25) inches. End with row 4 of pattern for both crew neck and v-neck sweaters.

Shape neck – v-neck: Next row: K1, SSK, work in pattern to end of row. Cont in pattern, dec 1 st at neck edge every RS row until 43 (48, 52, 57, 62, 66) sts rem. Cont, dec every 4th row until 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55) sts rem. Cont even until work measures same length as back to beg of shoulder shaping, end by working a RS row. Work short row shoulder shaping.

Shape neck – crew neck: BO 8 (8, 9, 9, 9, 9), K to end of row. P 1 row. Next row: K1, SSK, work in pattern to end of row. Cont in pattern, dec 1 st at neck edge on each K row to 34 (38, 42, 46, 51, 55 ) sts. Work even until work measures same as back to beg of shoulder shaping. End by working a row 4. Work short rows as follows:

Row 2: P
Row 3: K to within 11 (13, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts of gap created by wrap on row 2, WT knitwise
Row 4: P
Row 5: Using double point needle, K across row, knitting wrap and wrapped st together.
Row 6: P one row. Do not bind off.

3 Needle Bind Off
Place RS of right front and back tog and work 3-needle bind-off to join shoulders. Rep for left shoulder.

Sleeves
Using smaller needles, CO 39 (39, 41, 41, 43, 45) sts. Work 1.5 (1.5 (2, 2, 2, 2) inches in K1-P1 rib, end by working a WS row. Next row: K, inc 18 (18, 21, 21, 24, 22) sts. Note: following inc rows are worked as follows: K1, inc in next st, work pattern to last 2 sts, inc in next st, K1. Change to larger needles and work in pattern st, inc as follows:
Sizes 36, 44, 52 only: every 4th row to 95 (101, 105) sts
Sizes 40, 48, 56 only: every 2nd row to 67 (69, 69) sts, then every 4th row to 101 (105, 111) sts. Incorporate pattern into sleeve edges as increases allow. Cont even until sleeve from beg measures 17.5 (18, 18.5, 19, 19.5, 20) sts. BO on RS.

NECKBAND – V-neck
With RS facing and using size 5 – 35” circular needle, PU and K sts along front edge as follows: PU and K 1 st in ends of 3 rows, then skip 1 row (note that sts on ends of alt rows look different: one appears to be a tight “knot” and the other is a longer, looser stitch. By picking up 1 st in a “knot, 1 “loose” st and a second “knot”; then skipping the next loose st, a very even edge will be achieved.). Then K across the sts on back neck sti holder, and PU and K sts along opposite front edge. Beg with a purl st, work in K1-P1 ribbing for 3 rows, end by working a WS row. Determine spacing, then work small yo buttonholes as follows: Rib, ending with K st, then yo, K2 tog, rib to next buttonhole, yo, K2 tog, etc. (Buttonholes should always appear in a purl “ditch”). Work 3 more rows ribbing. BO in pattern.

Neckband and Front Bands – Crew neck
Neckband - With right side facing and using smaller needles, pick up and knit 32 (32, 34, 34, 36, 38) sts along right front neck edge, knit across sts on back neck st holder, pick up and knit 33 (33, 35, 35, 37, 39) sts along left front neck edge. Work 8 rows K1-P1 ribbing). End by working a wrong-side row. Bind off in pattern.

Front Bands - Left Side - Using smaller needle, pick up and knit sts along front edge as follows: : pick up and knit 1 st in the ends of 3 rows, then skip 1 row (note that the sts on the ends of alternate rows look different: one appears to be a tight “knot” and the other is a longer, looser stitch. By picking up 1 st in a “knot, 1 “loose” st and a second “knot”; then skipping the next loose st, a very even edge will be achieved.). Work 7 rows K1-P1 ribbing.
Right side
– pick up sts as for left side; work 3 rows K1-P1 ribbing. Buttonhole row: Determine spacing, then work small yo buttonholes as follows: Rib, ending with a K st, then yo, K2 tog (buttonholes should always appear in a “purl” ditch”). Work 3 more rows ribbing. Bind off in pattern.
