Abbreviations: beg- beginning; CO- cast on; dec- decrease; dpn- double pointed needle; inc- increase; k- Knit; k2tog - knit 2 sts together; m1- make 1 st by pulling strand between st just knitted and next st, slipping it onto left needle and knitting through the back loop; p- Purl; rep - repeat; rnd(s) - round(s); RS- right side (outside of garment); sl- slip; St st - stockinette stitch; st(s)- stitch(es); WS- wrong side (inside of garment)

Note:
the changing colors in Mochi Plus are formed by dyeing the fiber before spinning and the colors will not appear at the same spacing in all balls of yarn. For this reason any pairs of mittens you make will be "fraternal" twins and usually not "identical" twins.

Instructions: (Make 2):
(Note: You will work the cuff on the WS and then wrap and turn to continue on the RS. This produces a cleaner stitch transition between the dpn’s.)

CO 26 (32, 38) sts. Join and begin working in the round.
Knit 8 rnds.

Cuff:
Purl 5 rnds
Knit 5 rnds
Repeat these 10 rnds 1 (2, 2) more times. Sl 1st st of rnd to working dpn, bring yarn to front, sl 1st st back to other dpn. Turn work around and inside out. This is now the RS of the mitten.

Hand:
Knit 1 (2, 2) rnds even.
Inc Rnd: [m1, k13 (16, 19)] 2x. [28 (34, 40) sts]
Knit 1 (1, 2) rnds even.
Inc Rnd: k7 (8, 9), m1, k14 (17, 20), m1, k7 (9, 11). [30 (36, 42) sts]
Knit 1 (1, 2) rnds even.

Begin Thumb Gusset:
Inc Rnd: K1, m1, k2, m1, k to end of rnd.
Knit 1 rnd even.
Inc Rnd: K1, m1, k4, m1, k to end of rnd.
Knit 1 rnd even.
Inc Rnd: K1, m1, k6, m1, k to end of rnd.
Knit 1 rnd even.
Continue increasing in this manner until you have 14 (16, 18) sts between the m1’s.

Next Rnd: K2. With yarn needle, sl 14 (16, 18) sts for thumb onto contrasting yarn and hold away from work (to be worked later). K to end of rnd, closing gap at gusset.
Work even in St st until piece measures 1¼” less than desired mitten length (or ~ 5 (6, 7)”

Begin Top Decrease:
Dec Rnd: *k4, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. [25 (30, 35) sts]
Work 2 rnds even.

Dec Rnd: *k1, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. [10 (12, 14) sts]
Dec Rnd: *k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. [5 (6, 7) sts]

Cut yarn, leaving a 6-8” tail. Thread yarn needle with tail and draw through rem 5 (6, 7) sts.

Finishing the Thumb:
(Note: If possible, join the yarn at a similar color to the thumb sts being held to continue gradation effect.)
Sl 14 (16, 18) thumb sts onto 3 dpn’s. Work in the rnd (joining after 1st rnd) in St st until thumb measures ½ (½, ¾)” less than desired length.
