Velvety soft and plush hat knit with
Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille combined with Waikiki
Sizes: 20 (22)” circumference
Materials:
Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille: 1-50 gram ball and
1- 50 gram ball Waikiki
Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo, US size 8, 16” circular needles and size 8 double pointed needles.
Gauge: 14 sts/20 rows= 4" on size 8 needles in Stockinette st, 2 strands held together throughout; be sure to do a gauge swatch.
Abbreviations: BO-bind off; CO-cast on; dpn-double pointed needles;k-knit;k2tog-knit 2 stitches together; meas-measures; rnd-round; st(s)-stitch(es).
Hat
Using circular needles and 1 strand of each yarn held together, CO 70 (77) sts. Place marker, to mark beginning of rnd; join into a round taking care that stitches aren’t twisted.
Knit every rnd until piece meas 7 (7 ˝)” from CO edge.
Shape Crown
(Change to dpn’s when to tight too go around circular needles).
Rnd 1: *K5, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. 60 (66) sts.
Rnd 2,4,6 & 8: Knit
Rnd 3: *K4, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. 50 (55) sts.
Rnd 5: *K3, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. 40 (44) sts.
Rnd 7: *K2, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. 30 (33) sts.
Rnd 9: *K1 tog; k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd. 20 (22) sts.
Rnd 10: K2tog to end of rnd. 10 (10) sts.
Rnd 11: k2tog to end of rnd. 5 sts.
Finishing
Cut yarn, thread tail through tapestry needle and thread through remaining 5 sts. Pull tightly to close opening. Bring tail to inside of hat. Weave in tail and any loose ends.
